I use a zoom h2 wich i find great value for money, and it sounds good too!
in addition to the internal mikes i sometimes use the soundman in-ear binaural mikes.
i find this package amazingly good. just think about wind-noise when doing field rec´s.
rycote have these nice wind-shielding things, but expensive. it is possible to fabric something by yourself.
of course i would like some serious dpa mikes and a sound devices recorder, but then you have to mulitply the price with 10++
