public domain is exactly that my friend, like leaving it lying on the side of the road, anyone is able to pick it up and use it for whatever they want.

But the good thing is we're talking about files, not real objects, so you still have them at your disposal anytime, anywhere you have a connection. And (I guess / hope) no one can put their copyright on your work so it remains free for others. If some are willing to pay for someting free, it's their problem.

I'm happy for people to use the sounds on paid work/productions but I'm not happy for a company who provides sounds for money to get paid off my hard work.

I occasionally download sounds from this website for projects/games/mods. Those downloaded sounds I usually edit further myself till it is to my liking. A lot of times the sound I downloaded will be totally different from the original sound. I wonder how the CC license applies to edited sounds that don't sound anymore like the original sound.

Also, I have downloaded so many sounds over the years that I really don't know anymore who the original uploader/creator was. So if I were to use those sounds for example in a commercial game then I would not even know who to give credit for the sounds. Most likely it will be dozens different people. In that case I would give credit to Freesound.org and thank the uploaders/creators in general... and make a nice donation to this great website.
