This piece is a long time coming for me. I've been wanting to do a progressive piece of my own for years. Although this version is incomplete, it gives you a look as to where I'm going with it. This is one of the most disjunct pieces I've posted here to date (A disjunct melody is a melody that leaps between notes, and the intervals between notes are farther apart on the stave). This gives it a sort of unsettled feel.
You can make up your mind as to what it could be used for. The beginning part makes me think of someone in momentary mental chaos, maybe a fight-or-flight situation. The kettle drums bring a feel of drama and bold actions. Then the rhythm takes off in quick 5/4 time, wandering through the measures freely and intensely.
Just for the record, this was not done using midi sequencers. I used the MX49 to lay down a click track, then built it track by track, playing each instrument (Roland TD17, Yamaha MX49 & P90). I must confess, though, that I did record it at 140 bpm. When I played it back, I liked it but it just sounded more energetic and chaotic at a quicker tempo, so I went with it. It just felt good to finally get to exercise my chops on the drum kit after spending months on my keyboard skills.
I continue to work this and on other pieces, and MGS-produced versions of them may be put up either here or on the upcoming MGSTUDIO.ORG website (free, w/donations appreciated) along with other works I have in-process that will not be posted here, but be available commercially.
Unlike most of the sounds and rhythm tracks I've posted here, I've flagged this one as Attribution Non-Commercial, so please read the info on this type of license if you're not familiar. Otherwise, have fun with it!
