Friday, August 1st, 2008. 11:45am. Civil Defense monthly test of a Federal Signal EOWS 612(Emergency Outdoor Warning Siren, 6 drivers, 1200 watts, Rotating array). This one is in the community park/elementary school.
This siren is rated at about 120-125dB @ 100ft. I was at about 80ft away from it. Used an Edirol R-09(AGC off, LOW CUT on, MIC GAIN low, INPUT LEVEL 30) + Sound Professionals SP-TFB-2 Binaurals. Sound kind of clipped when the siren pointed at me at full blast. I did however find the optimal settings to record my next siren on September 1, 2008.
Sorry for the wind noise: even with windscreens, it got to the mics. I'll be looking into some more effective ways of cutting out wind.
