Ok Joe, glad you like it. I'll try to do a flicky film flopping once I get my hands on a suitable reel.

Yes, the tough plastic protector might explain the harsh sound of BenKoning’s clip – I remember the sound as more ‘flicky’. I think a lot of people would find such a clip useful if you were able to do one. (Probably an idea to use an off-cut at the end of the reel rather than expose precious moments to such abuse.) As for me, I think I’ll stick with your ‘click-off’ ending – works nicely! Cheers.

Hi Joe, I might do a flapping version too. It depends on how the film was edited though, I had a bunch that were playing at least 15 minutes and had a long, white bit of plastic 'film' attached, for handling the film with your hands so the actual footage would remain as clean as possible.
Also there's a sound here on freesound, titled FilmFlopping.wav, uploaded by BenKoning. You can find it below in the Related Samples section. Maybe you can edit that in :)

This is very close to what I was looking for. I clearly remember the end of the film flapping against the casing after playback when I was young, and this would be the ideal. (The home movies were short – probably on 3” reels – and every available inch was used, so it would have required lightning reflexes to turn off the projector before the film came off the reel! ;-)) But this recording works very nicely too. Thanks!
