Multisamples = Ridiculus Statistics

My playfulness is out of place here, so I put it back in the box

Well I finally have to chime in since obviously my 1000 sounds are not long enough to be recognized as a top contributor anymore. I have one or twp packs of multisamples that sound similar but are pitched for a sampler so I know each sound is different. I was deliberately keeping the files as short as possible to conserve bandwidth or server space since I started but if I would left a 1 second tail on each file that would give me another 20 minutes of "time" and maybe (not sure of current my "total time"
put me ahead of the last person on the list who contributed 40 sounds. I have almost that many sample packs alone.
Yes, there are several hundred sounds of Jovica's which I cannot differentiate at all so I understand the frustration of some who are in a "king of the hill" mentality when it comes to seeing their name in lights. However, the guy went through the trouble of uploading 2000+ files so yeah, he gets credit for it. So jealousy and envy stir the pot and I am collateral damage as my chances of having one of my sounds used in a project that may being me attention and free me from the doldrums of a high stress sales career are dashed because someone who spends hours recording cars passing by thinks that fourier transfers and digital synthesis are less important than birds chirping or parades in Morocco.
Lastly, as far is time is concerned, my oldest sound on here is from 1974. I took snippets and posted them from 2 90 minute tapes. Had I just uploaded the entire boring recording with silence and everything, I would be on the list on the front page again. Now I could start spamming and flaming the forums so my name will be somewhere for people to see without searching for it but I am officially stopping the noisecollecting business and concentrating on music from here on. I have collected over 12,000 sounds, from here and elswhere that should keep me busy making music for 50 more years. I know what my sounds are worth and whether they are downloaded as much as a phone ringing or how long they are doesn't matter.
I get emails and/or messages on here and myspace almost daily about the sounds on here so I know someone must appreciate them. I have uploaded hundreds of songs at archive.org and am working (behind schedule) to get www.noisecolllector.com off the ground. So I have not been here that much. I will post links to the last few songs made with Freesound samples shortly. At least my name is on the damn wikipedia article picture!

Noise Collector you're one of those who's sounds, music, attitude, and dedication are a huge inspiration to me. That's NOT sarcasm, either. Good luck with your sounds.

Thanks, I was originally going to do an april fools day thing on here and make some strange announcement but then easter came and I got all crazy on the way out into shopping nightmare at walmert, etc... now that the stress of another holiday has passed and I got to rant a little I am much happier. Thanks again, I think I am in the wrong damn thread anyway!
I will eventually complete that damn acoustic guitar pack.... someday.
NoiseCollector, I kinda get the feeling that your big post was directed at me... (I come to this conclusion by being unable to imagine who the hell else you could be talking about). Well, thats a bit strong. I wont admit to stiring the pot. Jealous and evnvious maybe, of people hearing, recording, and uploading amazing sounds, but not the point of trying to sabotage someones career! That is over the top. Your rightly entitled to have an opinion and a rant, but I do hope your are taking the piss rather than being entirely serious.

Your work is commendable. I have not slagged anyone but Jovica, and though it was rather silly, it was not maliscious as you infer. I dont really want to have to write this shit, but I'm not happy with being called a spammer or flamer. I post on here to interact with people who make sound.

I take your post with a pinch of salt, I'm sure you got bigger things to think about such as sound and music. The bit that caused offence was being told that I am more interested with recording hours of traffic than FFTs. I will now seek to prove you wrong on both moral and sonic levels, and hopefully everyone will benefit from the fruits of this dialogue.
Coming from a San Franciscan, I'll take neo-con as a compliment. And if I was a neo-con what would that possibly have to do with anything anyway? Oh well, my post was not meant to insult anyone and I surely did not mean to trivialize anyone's contributions. I was proud of the effort and time I spent uploading files and I am only human so I was a little disapointed that the total time of samples knocked my name off the marquee. I may not be super rich making noises but I am offically a professional musician as of last month because I sold a song for $100. No shit...
So the stupid ranking and this thread have nothing to do with any potential discontinuation of the production of sounds for this site, it has to do with the next stage of my life which is making some music with all the sounds I have collected. Trying not to fall into a flamewar piss fit with LS over religion, polictics or any other crap that impededs human evolution. But since you opened pandora's box, let the record reflect the following:
40% of my money is taken from me while someone who cannot perform as well as I can in the capitalism game pays 20%, that is not fair. You cannot argue that point, why should someone who is better at it than I am pay 50%? As I much as I detest the rich, they should not be penalized for success. What about equality? I don't believe in religion so you can't paint me in that box of bible thumpers. I could care less how many fetuses are flushed down the toilet, so the pro-life label won't fit me. Thanks for the compliments and the jabs, it's all part of life, as we all. Everyone who even contributes one sound on here is just as important as Jovica or whomever has the highest bitrate, or most expensive binaural helmet microphone or who has the latest most expensive digital audio workstation. We can all stand around the locker room measuring each other's penises or we can put our clothes on and stop hanging out naked in a smelly room while old perverted teachers stare at us showering. And if anyone is a female or doesn't have a penis, no offense meant with that metaphorical image. Or was it symbolism? I forget...
Anyway, again, I was not attacking anyone and it's only human nature to want recognition for hard work. I think I have matured since I first signed up here and that is a good thing. Happy Friday the 13th or whatever day it is where you are.
